Many people drive supercars, muscle cars, classic cars, and other highly impractical vehicles on a daily basis. However, most of these cars do not produce more than 800 horsepower. However, Dodge built its Halo Demon car on the relatively practical Challenger platform with amenities like air conditioning. So, is it okay to daily drive the Dodge Demon?
Can you daily drive a Dodge Demon?
Yes, you can daily drive the 2018 Dodge Demon. While the limited-edition car was conceived more as a streaky weapon that you can take home, it has the qualities of a daily driver. For example, the Demon has airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, an infotainment system and comfortable seats. However, Dodge offered the Demon with only the driver’s seat installed to save weight, but offered to retrofit the other three seats for just $1.
That said, the Demon is much less of a practical daily driver than the Challenger R/T Scat Pack or even the SRT Hellcat. With the crash diet that Dodge installed, the muscle car does without the mufflers, sound, and big brakes found on other V8-powered Challengers. Plus, with a resale value well over $100,000, the Demon will likely cost you more than twice as much as another V8-powered option.
How much fuel does the Challenger Demon use?
The Dodge Demon is a thirsty car, estimated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at ten mpg in the city. It doesn’t get any better at highway speeds either. The Demon will only manage 18 mpg on the highway, making it a combined fuel economy of 13 mpg.
By comparison, Car and Driver says the 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has a combined fuel economy of 16 mpg. Also, to reach the Demon’s claimed 840 horsepower, you’ll need to run Dodge’s potent 100-octane race fuel.
Is the Dodge Demon safe?
While the Dodge Demon sacrifices a lot for speed, it doesn’t compromise safety as much as you might expect. It is built on the Challenger platform, the last Hellcats to receive five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Challenger lower scores for roof strength, so try to keep your Dodge upright.
Is the Dodge Demon a good investment?
The car is an impressive investment if you’re one of the 3,300 orders that secured the Demon at Dodge’s original price. Dodge originally sold its Halo car for a starting price of $86,090 ($86,091 since you weren’t stupid enough to buy it without the $1 box). Today, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) lists a typical price with 20,000 miles at $142,976.
What is the daily ride instead of a demon?
As the characters in Jurassic Park said franchise, it’s not a question of “can we” but rather “should we.” You don’t have to drive a Dodge Demon every day. Dodge only made 3,300 of these, and the car is just too special to carry passengers through the stops. If you want, be our guest. Instead, consider a more massive V8-powered Dodge Challenger like the R/T Scat Pack.
