Humboldt County has one of the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the state. Fortunately, there is a big cultural shift happening in local transportation planning. Under the banner of Vision Zero, transport planners envision how we can manage our road network to reduce road fatalities to zero. Sound too high? Other jurisdictions have already seen significant road safety improvements under this model.
What does Vision Zero look like? Addressing traffic safety investments, such as the new Caltran Broadway HAWK beacon, large-scale planning efforts, such as the Humboldt County Association of Governments’ Safe and Sustainable Transportation Goals.
